Shopping Path Project and Media Planning Problem. by Katsutoshi Yada

Katsutoshi Yada

The workshop was opened by the greeting of DMLab Director, Kansai University Professor Katsutoshi Yada. After thanking foreign researchers as well as participants from other research institutions for their attendance of the first large-scale DMLab International Workshop, Professor Yada made an introduction into the workshop. Professor Yada talked about past achievements and presented current research results, concerning three main topics of the Research Center which are "Customer Management Modeling of Large-Scale Purchase Historic Data", "Application of Purchase Model to the Customer Shopping Path Data" and "Application of Multidimensional Time-Series Data Modeling to Advertising Effect Model".

Response Mining and Pattern Clustering in Customer Research.byReinhold Decker

Reinhold Decker

The first foreign researcher who made his presentation was Professor Reinhold Decker of Bielefeld University (Germany). Professor Decker was explaining complicated analytical operations using concrete numbers and graphs in a way that participants could easily grasp the main points out of his presentation. Professor didn't show any sign of tiredness after long intercontinental flight and gave a powerful presentation which inspired the participants for many questions and discussions that it didn't feel it was just the first presentation of the morning session of the first day of the workshop.

Modeling Customer Dynamics with a Markov Ensemble.by Anita Prinzie

Anita Prinzie

The final presentation of the first day of the international workshop was given by Professor Anita Prinzie of Ghent University (Belgium), who was one of a few female participants. The content of presentation was the collaborative work on the use of Markov ensemble for customer modeling with Professor Van den Poel of the same University, whose presentation was scheduled for the next day. Including Professor Prinzie, the majority of the participants came from the countries with big time-zone difference. Considering this point, as well as the intensity of following up discussions, it was decided to hold coffee breaks for several times.

Follow-up discussion

At the end of the first day of the workshop, Professor Yada initiated a discussion based on the first three presentations. Researchers summarized ideas and holding a cup of coffee in one hand had debate in a relaxing setting, in spite of the fact that it was the first time they met.
