about us

Our laboratory is working to research on the creation of novel organic molecules oriented towards organic functional materials. To date, various organic molecules have been used for organic functional materials. Our group has focused on the novel polycyclic aromatic compounds. Aromatic compounds have specific π-conjugated electrons, which express functions of organic electronics materials and others. Also, since many aromatic compounds have the flat and rigid structures, they are very useful motifs for the structure of organic molecules that would express unique properties.

Synthesis and characterization of novel π-conjugated electron compounds

We synthesized the organic molecules with a large polarization structures, which exhibited the strong fluorescence solvatochromism.

Development of synthetic method of extended π-conjugated molecules oriented towards organic functional materia

We found that the benzannulation of 2-(phenylethynyl)benzaldehyde with various oligoalkynes was catalyzed by the copper or rhenium complexes to give the multiple substituted and sterically hindered polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons having 2,3-disubstituted naphthalene units.

The 9,10-bis(3-aryl-2-naphthyl)anthracenes were synthesized by the benzannulation and showed strong blue emits light in solution / solid states. In addition, their stabilities remarkably improved compared with 9,10-di(2-naphthyl)anthracene, which is well-known blue fluorescent dye for application in OLEDs.

Development of synthetic method of regioselective polysubstituted polycyclic aromatic compounds

We found the synthetic method to introduce regioselective aryl and amino groups into benzanthrone. We also disclosed the preparation of the 4H-[de]anthracen-4-ones via 1,2-addition of metal acetylides to benzanthrone.
